Ottawa River House by Christopher Simmonds Architect

This past fall we were commissioned to photograph one of the latest creations of one of Ottawa’s leading architectural firms, Christopher Simmonds Architect. The Ottawa River House is located in a secluded area by the Bay in the west end of Ottawa. According to architect Christopher Simmonds: “The starting point for the planning of this house was to identify a place on the site which afforded a view of Parliament Hill, and to locate the principal living spaces there. An elongated entry with a natural cedar planked ceiling brings visitors by way of the southerly courtyard to the very core of the site and the home. The result is a home with stunning views, and which enjoys both an intimate connection with the courtyard and a more expansive connection with the river.”

Our assignment concentrated on highlighting the magnificent views available from anywhere in the house, while emphasizing the interior/exterior interface.

The Ottawa River House has been featured on ArchDaily, and several of the images from this shoot were recently featured in the latest Interiors Issue of Ottawa Magazine (where you can also find some of our previous work for Melina Craig Architect).

It’s stunning, and so are those photos. But, I would never not ever have picked that font for the house number.
